What do you know about mental health and how it relates to sport?

Sports psychologist and former cricket player, Dr David A. Hirst, has analysed the latest research to help understand how mental health affects the mental health of sports athletes.

In a new book, Mental Health and Sport, Dr Hirst explains how mental illnesses can be part of the sport’s overall health, and how mental issues can be difficult to track down and treat.

Dr Hirst was speaking to The Sport Biblical on The World Today.

Dr David Hirst says mental health can be a part of sport’s wellbeingDr Hirtings research into mental health also includes the current state of mental health research and treatment across the sport.

He has a particular interest in mental health for mental health as it relates in relation to sports.

He says it can help to look at mental health issues in the context of the overall wellbeing of sport.

“For instance, mental health may be seen as an important part of any mental health issue but it may not be as relevant to every mental health case.”

So there are two areas of research that may be able to help to understand where mental health in sport is at,” he says.”

One is the current literature on mental health, which is focused on sports, and the other area is research into the current mental health problems that we are dealing with.

“In the book, Dr Wojciechowski says there are more than a million mental health cases in the US alone, and more than 1,000 suicides in the United States every day.

Dr Wojchowski is an expert on the mental illness of sport, having worked in the field for more than 20 years.”

I’ve studied sport in a number of different areas.

I’ve done a lot of work on sport psychology, sport psychiatry, and also I’m involved in the Australian Sports Mental Health Forum,” he said.”

The one area that I’m particularly interested in is mental health within sport.

I think there are a lot more things to do there.

“Dr Hight says there is an understanding of mental illness in sport that is a bit different.”

In sport there’s a lot that is very basic, there’s very little that is complex, and so you need to start at the top and work your way down.

“But you need the right people to do that work,” he explains.

“There’s a difference between being a scientist, and a scientist is someone who studies the results of their experiments.

A psychologist is someone that studies the mental processes and the effects of what they’re doing on the human brain.”

Dr Woyczowski says research into sport psychology can help athletes better understand mental health.

“It’s not about getting into the scientific research of how it’s affected, it’s not that simple, it has to be done on a very rigorous level and be very specific.

It has to explain what it’s doing to athletes and how we can improve it, and we’re starting to do a bit of that,” he explained.”

That’s a bit more difficult in sports, because there’s no real scientific basis to how the human mind works.

It’s all about what the players are doing and how they think, and then how we improve those processes.”

What we can do, in sport, is to have a really good sense of what’s going on in the minds of the athletes and what they think about the mental wellbeing of their team, and I think we’ve got a pretty good understanding of what the mind is capable of doing.

“We can make better mental health choices for our athletes.”
